Natalie Wilson
“Music exists for the purpose of growing an admirable heart.”
Natalie completed her Classical Piano Performance studies at the University of Auckland under the tutelage of world-renowned teacher Dr. Rae de Lisle. Natalie has always had a passion for teaching so completed Honours majoring in Studio Pedagogy, where she focused on teaching Grade 1-8 exam pieces. During this time Natalie also began her training to become a qualified Suzuki Piano Teacher. This method works very well for young children as it is based on the “Mother Tongue Method” (the way children learn to speak a language), by listening and copying first. Students are welcome to start learning piano using the Suzuki Method from age four.
Having taught many solo and group classes during her four years in Auckland, Natalie has extensive experience with beginner level students and enjoys helping students set up correct and efficient playing technique from the start. Natalie believes that every child can be taught to play musically and with expression, and aims to provide a repertoire-rich approach in their learning. Lessons cover strategies for home practice, collaboratively choosing which music to learn, duet playing, and detailed guidance on learning new pieces of music.
Natalie is a patient and encouraging teacher who sets high but achievable goals for students. Her teaching philosophy is that every child can learn given the right environment, guidance, and support with practice.
